Save recipes straight from Instagram
Set this up once and adding a reel takes one tap: hit share in Instagram, pick The Mehrotra Kitchen, and the recipe starts reading itself. No copying links, no switching apps.
iPhone & iPad
Takes about two minutes. You need the Shortcuts app — it comes with the phone.
- Put the kitchen on your home screen. Open this site in Safari, tap the share button, then Add to Home Screen. That gives you the cloche icon to tap.
- Open the Shortcuts app and tap + to make a new shortcut.
- Tap Add Action, search for URL, and pick it. In the box, paste this exactly:
https://saarthm.com/recipes/add?url= - Tap Add Action again, search for Open URLs, and add it underneath.
- Now tap the URL box you made in step 3 and put the cursor at the very end, after the
=. From the row above the keyboard choose Shortcut Input so it lands right after the equals sign. - Tap the shortcut's name at the top, choose Details, and turn on Show in Share Sheet. Under Share Sheet Types, leave URLs on and switch the rest off.
- Name it Save to the Kitchen and tap Done.
That's it. In Instagram, tap share on any reel → Save to the Kitchen. If you don't see it, tap More at the end of the row and switch it on.
Voice Memos on iPhone
Send a recording from the Voice Memos app in two taps, without saving a file. Set it up once.
Sign in to get your link.
- In the Shortcuts app tap +. Tap the name at the top, choose Rename and call it Kitchen voice memo.
- Tap Add Action, search for Get Contents of URL and add it. Tap the blue URL and paste your link.
- Tap the arrow on that action to open it. Set Method to POST and Request Body to Form. Tap Add new field, choose File, type
audioas the key, and for the value choose Shortcut Input. - Tap Add Action again, search for Open URLs and add it underneath. It opens whatever the first action got back.
- Tap the (i) at the bottom, turn on Show in Share Sheet, and under the types leave Media and Files on. Tap Done.
Then in Voice Memos: tap a recording, tap … or the share button, and choose Kitchen voice memo. The Kitchen opens on the page that shows it being written down and read. If you don't see the shortcut, tap Edit Actions at the bottom of the share sheet and add it.
Android
Nothing to build — installing the site is the whole setup.
- Open this site in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu, and choose Install app (sometimes called Add to Home screen).
- In Instagram, tap share on a reel and pick The Mehrotra Kitchen from the row of apps.
The kitchen shows up in the share sheet by itself once it's installed.
What happens next
The link opens the kitchen and starts reading the post right away — you land on the review screen with the ingredients and steps already filled in, and you check them before saving.
Instagram doesn't let us read every post. When it blocks us, you'll be asked to paste the caption in — copy it from the app and the rest still works the same way.
If it asks for your code the first time a shared link opens, enter it once. iPhones treat the home-screen icon and Safari as two separate places, so each one remembers you on its own.
One quirk worth knowing: iPhones photograph the icon the moment you add it to the home screen. If the logo ever changes, remove the icon and add it again to pick up the new one.
